About Me

I was born in Venezuela. I began to study music when I was 3 years old. Music has always been my passion.! I studied music at the "Ecole Martenot" in Paris, France, and at the "Conservatorio Juan Manuel Olivares" in Venezuela. I earned a Diploma in Piano Performance at the Conservatorio and later a Bachelor of Music from the "Universidad Central de Venezuela". I also studied Conducting and Composition.

My musical studies and performances allowed me to travel to Europe, South America and the United States. I have participated in master classes and festivals performing as a soloist and with orchestra.

I enjoy studing and performing Latin-American Music. In 1987, I won a special recognition for my findings on Venezuelan XIX Century Piano Music. At that time, I did my first recording.

In 1990 I came to the United States. I earned a Master of Music in Piano Performance from University of Miami in 1993. Later on, I have been taken classes in Education and Music Education.

I Have won two "Artist in Residence" from the Venezuelan Government, The "Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho" full scholarship and a "CONAC" grant.

I started to teach as an assistant when I was only 13 years old. I have been teaching since then. I love to teach!!!
I also started very young as an assistant conductor and later became a conductor on several choirs and instrumental groups.

I have been in South Florida since 1991. Here, I run a private music studio, still going strong. Some of my piano students have been finalists and winners in piano competitions.

I also runned for several years an early childhood music program. This program was featured in the "Miami Herald". I also was invited as special guest in a Spanish TV show "Primeros Pasos". There I talked about the importance of Early Childhood Music Education. This show has been broadcast in Spain and South America.

I started to work for Miami Dade County Public School in 1999. At my site, South Hialeah Elementary, I created the string program. I founded The South Hialeah Elementary string Orchestra, which I conduct since its beginnings. For the last three years, we have won the First Prize at the Music USA Festival 2001, 2002 and 2003. For 'Elementary String Orchestras'.

I also has been colaborating for the last two years with "The South Florida Youth Symphony". There, I teach, coach and also conduct at the Orchestra Elementary Division.

I also have been trying to develop the students interest and knowledge of the opera. In 2001, I won a grant from the "Education Fund". With this grant we wrote and put on stage our first opera: "Lincoln". My students learned a whole lot and were terribly proud.!!!
After that we have written and put on the stage two more children operas: "The Discovery of America" and "The First Thanksgivings". Through the "EDUCATION FUND" I have become a 'disseminator' for the "Opera-Adventure". This has allowed me to spread the project to other educators.
In May 2003, I won the "Note Award Music Educator of the Year". This award was given by "The Great Opera of Miami" and the Young Patroneses of the Opera". This honor allowed me to present the "Opera-Adventure" Project to all the Dade County Music Educators.

I enjoy composing music. I have written several works for piano, and a string quartet. I also have written many vocals arrangements for choir and instrumental arrangements for elementary and intermediate orchestra.
